Rosholt girls track team sends 13 to state

The Rosholt Hornet Girls won the WIAA Sectional Track Meet at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Thursday, May 24, winning seven events.

In the same meet the Amherst girls finished eighth. The girls team scores were Rosholt, 107.5; Iola-Scandanavia, 89; Princeton, 56.5; Elkhart Lake-Glen, 52; Hilbert, 35; Coleman, 35; Reedsville, 34; Amherst, 31; Port Edwards, 29; Niagra, 28; Gibraltar, 22; Brillion, 21; Florence, 20; Shiocton, 16.5; Suring, 15; Saint Mary Central, 14; Assumption, 12; Lena, 11; Almond-Bancroft, 10; Tri-County, 9.5; Gresham Community, 9; Tigerton, 9; Crivitz, 7 and Pacelli, 6.

The boys team scores were Suring, 65; Reedsville, 62; Hilbert, 62; Assumption, 59; Sheboygan Lutheran, 42; Wild Rose, 37; Coleman, 34; Gillett, 33; Gibraltar, 33; Green Lake, 30; Amherst, 29; Rosholt, 28; Iola-Scandanavia, 26; Brillion, 21; Elkhart Lake-Glen, 17; Lena, 13; Florence, 12; Bowler, 12; Port Edwards, 12; Montello, 12; Marion, 10; Crivitz, 9; Almond-Bancroft, 8; Niagra, 5; Pacelli, 5; Princeton, 3; Oshkosh Lourdes, 2 and Tri-County, 1.

Rosholt

The Rosholt girls won seven of 18 events, took two seconds, one third, two fourths, one fifth, one seventh and one eighth.

Rosholt coach Mike Trezbiatowski was impressed with the girls' outing. "To win seven events at sectionals is pretty neat. We have a special group of people who have made some commitments to excel and it's paid off," Trezbiatowski said.

All finishers in third place and above will participate in the state meet at La Crosse Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2. The team will send 13 girls, in 10 different events to state.

Senior Jenna Eschenbauch won the high jump with a jump of 5'0 and 100-meter hurdles in 15.4 seconds. She also took a third in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.8 seconds.

Senior Tami Scott won the mile in 5:21.7 and the two-mile in 11:38.7.
Steph Wierzba got second in the shot put (34'1").

"We've come a long way with just a little more to go. All the girls are part of a strong team, which they should be very proud of, Trezbiatowski said.
Taking fourths were Kendra Kazemba in the 300-meter hurdles and Kate Kosobucki in the pole vault. Amy Scott took fifth in the high jump, Angie Bricko seventh in the discus and Nicky Bembenek eighth in the mile.

The Hornets dominated the relay events with firsts in the 800 (1:51.6), 1,600 (4:15.5) and 3,200-meter races (10:00) and a second in the 400-meter. Kosobucki, Natasha Check, Eschenbauch and Allie Larson make up the 400-meter team; Kosobucki, Check, Larson and Katie Flick the 800; Check, Flick, Larson and Kendra Kazemba the 1,600; and Flick, Lindsey Peplinski, Tami Scott and Amy Scott the 3,200.

"The relay teams definitely ran solid times and with a little more work will do some special things at state," Trezbiatowski said.

The boys team will send two representatives to state with Luke Lane qualifying with his second-place finish in the 400-meter dash and third in the 800-meter run.

"Luke Lane ran smart, solid races but we know he has more to offer for state in both races," Trezbiatowski said.

Andy Hartvig qualified by taking third in the shot put.

Also scoring for the boys at the meet were Nathaniel Miller, fourth in 110-meter high hurdles and Brady Staszak, sixth in the 3,200.

Almond-Bancroft

Samantha Diver took fourth for the Eagle girls in the 800-meter run Renee Reince also took a fourth in the triple jump.

Christyn Johnson took seventh in the high jump and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles.

The girls also took eighth in the 1,600-meter relay.

Jacob Warzynski led the Almond-Bancroft boys with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash.

The boys also earned points with a sixth-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay and an eighth in the 3,200-meter relay.

Pacelli

The Pacelli Cardinal girls earned points with a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter relay.

Greg Snow and Jordan Wojtalewski led the Pacelli boys. Snow took seventh in the pole vault and Wojtalewicz earned a seventh-place finish in the shot put.

The boys also took eighth in the 400-meter relay.

Amherst

Jane Ovanian will represent the Falcons at state after qualifying with second-place finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.

The girls 3,200-meter relay team will also move on to state after its second-place finish.

Also earning points for the girls were Samantha Diver, fourth in the 800-meter run, and the 1,600-meter relay team with a seventh place finish.

Tim Orlowski and Jordan Slbo will represent the Amherst boys at state. Orlowski took third in the high jump and Slebo finished third in the 1,600-meter run.

Derek Konkel took fourth in the long jump. Orlowski took fourth in the discus throw.

Also earning points for the boys were Tim Olson, fifth in the 3,200-meter run, Sam Werner, eighth in 300-meter hurdles and the 3,200-meter relay team, seventh.
