Rosholt girls dominate Division 3 track meet
The Rosholt High School girls track team dominated at the Division 3 WIAA 2001 State Track and Field Championship
in La Crosse on Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3.
The Hornets finished with 56 points, 23 ahead of second-place Iola-Scandinavia.
Tami Scott led Rosholt with two first-place finishes. She won the 1,600-meter run
in 5 minutes and 9.49 seconds on Friday, then came back on Saturday to win the 3,200-meter run in 11 minutes, 16.46
seconds. In addition, she was part of the 4x800-meter relay team that finished second.
Teammate Jenna Eschenbauch, a senior, chipped in by winning the 100-meter high
hurdles for the third consecutive year in 15.08 seconds. As a sophomore in 1999 she won the event in 15.87 seconds
and as a junior in 2000, she improved her time while winning in 15.33 seconds. The Division 3 record is 14.99 seconds
set by Laure Perruchoud of Brillion in 1996.
In addition to her victory in the hurdles, Eschenbauch took fourth in the girls
high jump.
The girls relay teams also put in solid performances taking second in both the
4x200-meter and 4x800-meter relays and finishing fourth in the 4x400-meter relay.
Members of the 4x200 team included Kate Kosobucki, Natasha Check, Allie Larson
and Kate Flick. The 4x800 team consisted of Amy Scott, Lindsay Peplinski, Flick and Tami Scott. On the 4x400 team
were Check, Larson, Flick and Kendra Kazemba.
Rosholt Boys: Luke Lane and Andy Hartwig led the boys with fifth-place finishes,
Lane in the 800-meter run and Hartwig in the shot put. The boys team finished 29th.
Amherst
Jane Ovanin led the Amherst girls team to a 12th-place finish in Division 3. Ovanin
finished second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 21.21 seconds, and was fourth in the 1,600. She
won the 3,200 meters in 2000 in a time of 11 minutes, 40.20 seconds.
Jordan Selbo scored the only points for the boys team by finishing eighth in the
1,600-meter run. The team finished 55th.
SPASH
The Stevens Point Area Senior High School girls team put in a solid performance
at state, finishing in a tie for ninth place in Division 1.
Amber Perri led the way for the Panthers by taking thirds in both the 400-meter
dash and the 800-meter run. Teammate Kim Klosno added an eighth in the 400.
The girls relay teams also scored points for the girls by finishing third in the
4x200-meter relay and seventh in the 4x400-meter relay. The 4x200 team included Kelly Konopacki, Sherine Watkins,
Nikki Olson and Cassie Dudeck. The 4x400 team included Klosno, Perri, Sarah Shurbert and Jackie Kropp.
