SPASH

Softball: The Panthers will advance to state after beating the Pulaski Red Raiders 4-1 in the championship game of the WIAA Division 1 Ashwaubenon Sectional on Tuesday, May 29.

The Panthers will play Eau Claire Memorial in a state quarterfinal game Tuesday, June 5, at the Saratoga Complex in Waukesha.

Baseball: The Stevens Point Area Senior High School baseball team played its last game of the season on Tuesday, May 29, when it lost, 7-4, to Sheboygan North in the sectional semifinal.

SPASH had a chance to win the game in the top of the seventh when Sheboygan's Grant Berkovitz hit into an apparent game ending double play. However, the ball got past SPASH shortstop Jesse Nagorski, allowing the Golden Raiders to rally from a 4-3 deficit.

After three fly-outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Panther's season was over.

Golf: The SPASH golf team finished sixth overall at the WIAA Division 1 sectional in De Pere, and failed to advance to state.

Brandon Flugaur and Joe Pavelski led SPASH with 79s. Joe Meinholtz and John Okray both shot 86s. The Panthers scored 330 as a team.

Rosholt

Baseball: The Rosholt Hornets finished their season on Tuesday, May 29, as well, losing 8-1 in a WIAA sectional semifinal to St. Mary Central.

Hornet's coach Jack Brooks attributed the loss to poor play by his team and great pitching by Zephyr starter Cal Stanke. "We had six errors and that kind of shut the door on us," he said.

Stanke gave up only three hits and struck out batters in six innings.

The Hornet's only run came in the first inning after Josh Richter drove in Randy Printz, who opened the game with a triple. Even that play wasn't pretty, though as Printz only scored after Richter's shot was bobbled by the Zephyr's second baseman.
