Stevens Point Legion baseball team heats up

The Stevens Point American Legion Post 6 baseball team (Sixers) has been on a tear the last couple of weeks after starting the season 0-6.
The team is currently 10-10 after finishing 2-3 in the Firecracker tournament held at Bukolt Park.

Recent Games

On Tuesday, July 3, the Sixers dropped a 17-10 game to Appleton.

On Monday, July 2, the Sixers lost to Wausau, 13-7. Highlights came from Jesse Nagorski who went 2 for 4 from the plate and had a RBI and Dan Yudchitz who batted 2 for 3 on the day.

Sunday, July 1, the team split a double header, taking a beating from Arlington Heights, 19-5, and delivering one to the Green Bay Blue Jays, 15-3.

Eric Shipferling provided a high point in the loss to Arlington Heights game by hitting a grand slam in the sixth inning.

Jake Jahnke had a solid day from the plate during the win over Green Bay, going 2 for 3 and delivering a 3-run homer. Pitcher Chris Jacobson went the distance in the win, striking out eight.

On Saturday, June 30, the team beat Green Bay Southwest, 8-5. Despite control problems that led to seven walks and two hit batters, pitcher Jesse Nagorski had a solid day, striking out 10.

Friday, June 29, the team beat Antigo, 8-3.

Thursday, June 28, the team defeated Rhinelander, 8-3. Pitcher Justin Pezewski also had some control problems, walking 10 batters, but had a good outing overall, giving up only four hits and striking out 10.

On Wednesday, June 27, the Sixers delivered an 11-1 drubbing to Appleton. Chris Jacobson pitched a complete game for the team, walking five and striking out four.

On Monday, June 25, the team got the better of area rival Plover, 4-1. Jesse Nagorski went the distance for Stevens Point with four strikeouts and five walks. Kyle Bohm took the loss for the Black Sox.

The Sixers split a doubleheader against Madison on Sunday, June 24, taking game one, 6-1, and dropping game two, 9-7.

Pitcher Dan Yudchitz gave a good performance in first start for the Sixers, striking out eight while giving up five hits and walking two.
