Plover Legion battles slump but plays solid in tournament
The Plover Legion Post 543 baseball team (Black Sox) has struggled a bit over the last couple of weeks.
The team's record was 9-11, after finishing fourth with a 2-2 record in the Upper Midwest Classic last weekend.
The team has gone 4-7 since its 5-4 start.
Recent Games
Sunday, July 1, the Black Sox took a beating at the hands of New Ulm in the championship round of the Upper
Midwest Classic. The team never recovered from its sloppy play in the first inning, committing four errors and
giving up four unearned runs.
On Saturday, June 30, the team played its best baseball of the last few weeks by beating Rochester (Minn.),
7-0, and Mankato (Minn.), 14-9. Prior to the victories, the Black Sox hadn't scored more than one run in a game
since its 11-5 loss to Marshfield on June 19.
Both Adam Evanoff and Kyle Bohm had home runs in the victory over Mankato. Evanoff's was a 2-run shot while
Bohm delivered a 3-run blast.
Friday, June 29, the Black Sox lost 8-1 to Creighton-Omaha (Neb.). The only highlight for the team was pitcher
Luke Aubut's complete game.
The team lost to Stevens Point, 4-1, on Monday, June 25.
On Saturday, June 23, the Black Sox lost, 9-1, to Appleton.
