Girls basketball: The Panthers remained undefeated, beating Wausau East, 72-39, Tuesday, (See "Game of the Week") and Lakeland, 63-25, on Friday.

Gymnastics: The Panthers increased their record to 8-0 in meets this season, defeating Antigo in a dual meet on Thursday and then taking first in the five-team Mosinee Invitational Saturday.

Kim Zimdars, the Panthers assistant coach, said the victory over Antigo by a 136.650-129.800 score showed the depth of the team, which has been troubled by midseason injuries.

"The Panthers displayed some beautiful routines, which showed as they placed on top in every event," she said. "Sweeping the top five places on bars really shows the depth and strength of this team. They are improving every day and are showing their determination to become one of the best teams in the area and possibly even the state."

On the bars, Anne Simonis took first followed by Katie Munsey, Stephanie Neidermann, Kim Klosno and Raenee Bugarske.

On the beam, the first four places went to Simonis, Nikki Cruz, Munsey and Jenna Weinbauer.

In the floor exercise, Bugarske was first, Munsey third, Klosno fourth and Cruz fifth. In the vault, Munsey was second, Bugarske fourth and Carrie Williamson fifth.

At the Mosinee Invitational, the Panthers scored 136.2 points to outdistance second-place D.C. Everest, which had 129.825.

"Our depth has shown through again, taking many of the top five spots in every event," said Panther coach Mary Olszewski. "It is great to see the award stand filled with the red-and-black of SPASH Panthers. Our gymnasts work hard for every tenth we receive and realize how important it is to keep routines clean and strong.

"Our team score is good and our goal is to make it even better, which is very realistic for this talented team."

Munsey captured the all-around event with a score of 34.475, while Weinbauer took first on the beam with a 9.25 score.

Seconds for the Panthers went to Munsey on the bars, Simonis on the beam and Williamson in the vault.
