"Overall, the team effort really showed as the girls pulled together to break not only meet records but season records as well," Panther coach Mary Olszewski said. "We are really excited to see our team coming together and working hard for a higher team score."

Pacelli

Boys basketball: The Cardinals lost at Amherst Thursday, 47-32.

Girls basketball: The Cardinals dropped a 51-35 contest to Amherst Friday.

Wrestling: The Cardinals dropped a dual meet to Spencer, 59-13, on Thursday.

Tim Schwarz, Mike Barnett and Greg Snow scored the points for Pacelli. Schwarz won an 11-4 decision at 130, Barnett took an 11-2 decision at 140 and Snow won by forfeit.

"We did not look real sharp," Cardinal coach Jay Yenter said. "Spencer has a very good team, but we let a couple of matches get away from us. We're just so young that we get into situations that we don't know how to react.

"The guys wrestle hard. They just made a few mistakes. Against good kids, one mistake can cost you the match. We learned that tonight against a veteran Spencer team."

Yenter said Barnett has been wrestling well lately. "He dropped down from 145 to 140 pounds and he looks a lot more comfortable at that weight."

Schwarz went after a good senior, Yenter said. "Tim recorded five takedowns in the match and the only points he gave up were escapes."

Amherst

Boys basketball: The Falcons defeated Pacelli, 47-32, Thursday, Jan. 11, behind a balanced attack.

Jesse Konkol led the Falcons with 15 points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots. Travis Stuczynski, Jeremy Sherf and Tony Packer each added eight points. Stuczynski also had six rebounds and six assists.

The first quarter ended in a 6-6 tie, but the Falcons pulled out to an 18-10 halftime lead. The lead widened to 30-21 at the third-quarter mark before the Falcons pulled away in the fourth quarter.

"I thought we played hard on defense," Falcon coach Gregg Jensen said. "We missed a lot of easy shots, but when you don't shoot well, you have to keep yourself in the game on defense."

On Tuesday, the Falcons defeated Iola-Scandinavia, 78-46. Three Falcons scored in double figures, led by Konkol with 19, Sherf with 16 and Stuczynski with 15. Nine of Sherf's points came on three-pointers. Konkol also led the team with nine rebounds, and Stuczynski had eight assists.

"We had a lot of people do a really nice job," Jensen said. "We had a lot of pluses in areas we have been working on."

Iola-Scandinavia handed the Falcons a 72-61 setback Tuesday.

"I was pleased with the aggressiveness displayed," Hornet coach Alan Carter said. "Overall, we were more effective on our feet."

The Hornets lost to Stratford, the No. 2 rated Division 3 team, 60-12, on Tuesday.

Sophomores Giese and Rice recorded Rosholt's points with pins. Giese pinned his opponent at 103 in 3:22. Carter said Rice was trailing 10-0 or 12-0 when he pinned his opponent at 5:05.

"This match didn't allow too much room for mistakes," Carter said. "We understood what we were up against and knew each wrestler had to come out ready to wrestle. Despite the results, I felt our performance was commendable. Every wrestler maintained their offense and refused to be intimidated. They were aggressive and didn't stop."

The Hornets are 3-0 in CWC duals and 4-8 overall.
