Pins were recorded by Tim Schwarz at 130, Greg Snow at 152, Joe Groshek at 160 and Justin Anderson at 171. Mike Barnett added a decision victory at 140.

"He really went after his opponent and set the tone for the rest of the meet," Pacelli coach Jay Yenter said about Schwarz. "This is only his fourth meet back after elbow surgery. He continues to work hard and get better."

Barnett wrestled well, Yenter said. "He's lost some tough matches this year. He always goes hard and never gives up. Tonight he put a few moves together and beat a solid junior."

"Snow and Anderson pinned good kids," Yenter said. "They are both wrestling very well right now."

Yenter complimented Groshek, filling in for the Cardinals due to injury. "He's only a freshman, but he has all the tools to be a very good wrestler.

Yenter said senior John Sniadajewski and sophomore Mike Kaczmarek are out for the year with injuries. Sniadajewski tore his ACL and MCL in his left knee at the tournament in Oshkosh the previous weekend. Kaczmarek tore his AC joint and fractured his collarbone

"John worked his tail off over the summer and during the fall to get better," Yenter said. "It's very unfortunate that this happened. It's a very sad ending to a very successful wrestling career."

Amherst

Boys basketball: The Falcons took control of the game against Menominee Indian in the third quarter Friday and went on to a 68-49 victory.

The Falcons held a 16-15 lead after the first quarter and widened it to 30-25 at the half, before outscoring the Indians 18-6 in the third quarter.

Jesse Konkol led the way for the Falcons with 22 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. He was aided in the scoring department by Tony Packer with 14, Jeremy Sherf with 12 and Travis Stuczynski with eight. Matt Mehne added six rebounds. The Falcons had 15 steals.

"Our defense was real weak in the first half and on the offensive end, we did not have much vision to see our teammates when they were open," coach Gregg Jensen said. "In the second half we played much better in all areas of the game."

The Falcons hit on 23 of 59 field goals and were five of 12 from three-point range, led by two by Packer.

On Tuesday, the Falcons overcame Shiocton, 55-43, hitting on 14 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Shiocton jumped out to a 15-13 lead after the first quarter, but the Falcons came back to take a 28-23 halftime lead. The Falcons then scored only five points in the third quarter as Shiocton took a 35-33 lead.

"We had good play from people coming off the bench," Jensen said. "Matt Mehne played good defense, Tim Olson gave us some offense. Nic Genske, Jordan Selbo, Dan Carlson gave us some good time. It was a very good win in a hostile environment."

Jeremy Sherf paced the Falcons with 15 points while grabbing five rebounds. Jesse Konkol added 13 points and six rebounds. Scott Nykl had nine points and Travis Stuczynski and Olson each had eight.

Boys basketball: The Hornets held on for a 56-53 home-court victory over Almond-Bancroft Friday night.

The Eagles jumped out to a 16-7 first quarter lead and still led by four, 27-23, at the half. The Hornets came on strong after the half and took a 41-34 lead after three quarters, before the Eagles came back. The Hornets had a seven-point lead, but A-B hit a three-pointer. When the Hornets increased the lead to six, A-B came back with another three-pointer.

Freshman Matt Zdroik led the Hornets with 12 points, Randy Printz added 11, Kevin Flick had 10 and another freshman, Adam Macht, chipped in nine.

Brian Warner, returning to action after suffering a collapsed lung, scored 17 points to pace the Eagles. Matt Cummings added 13.

Hornet coach Steve Schoofs said the team never quit, even after starting out 1-6 as two-time defending champions with a 40-8 record in the last 48 games before the season started.

"Just being aggressive made up for lack of shooting ability," he said. "We played with a lot of energy. We created a lot of problems. It's a big win for the guys, They made a pact to start over."

The victory, he said, showed the players they can win games when they perform and attack, even if they are small. Two of the team's guards, Dane Zdroik and Matt Zdroik, are about 5-7, 5-8 tall, Schoofs said, "but showed a lot of energy."
