Boys basketball: The Panthers continued
their winning streak. On Monday, they defeated Wausau West, 57-50.
On Friday, the Panthers beat Rhinelander, 54-35.
Girls basketball: The
Panthers remained unbeaten at 21-0 and cleared the initial hurdle in tournament play, defeating Manitowoc, 72-39,
Tuesday in regional play.
The Panthers finished the regular season with a 56-35 victory over Rhinelander
Friday.
Wrestling: Three
wrestlers qualified for the State Tournament in Madison, with their first matches scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday.
Jacob Calhoun, 33-2, was scheduled to meet Tom Geiner, 25-13, of Portage in the
112 pound class.
Grey Pope, 26-5, was to meet Colin Burns, 31-4, of Monroe at 160 pounds.
Josh Beyerl, 23-11, was matched against Brent Nowak, Wausau West, at 189 pounds.
Hockey: Wisconsin Rapids eliminated
the Panthers from the WIAA tournament, 5-3, Tuesday night.
The Panthers had advanced by handing Neenah a 4-1 defeat in a WIAA regional final
Thursday, Feb. 15.
Pacelli
Boys basketball: Weyauwega-Fremont
handed the Cardinals a 82-32 defeat Friday.
Girls basketball: The
Cardinals lost, 37-33, to Weyauwega-Fremont Friday.
The Cardinals opened tournament play against Rosholt. See page 16.
Wrestling: Greg Snow advanced the State
Wrestling Tournament after taking third place in the 152 pound class at the regional in Edgar Saturday. Snow lost
4-1 in the open round, then came back with pins in 1:56 and 34 seconds.
"He wasn't up for the first match," Cardinal coach Jay Yenter said about
Snow. "Then he came back and just dominated people. He's really wrestling well and the State Tournament is
wide open."
Snow, 30-7 on the season, faces Steve Berends, 30-6, of Glenwood City at 10 a.m.
Saturday.
Amherst
Boys basketball: The
Falcons defeated Shiocton on Friday, 59-47, coming back in the fourth quarter.
"The fourth quarter we came out and played the way we looked at playing the
whole game," said Amherst coach Gregg Jensen. "We closed the game out in the right way. We made some
nice plays when the game was on the line."
The Falcons jumped out to a 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter but Shiocton
came back to tie the game at 26-26 at halftime.
After three quarters, Shiocton had edged ahead, 41-40, but the Falcons came back.
Jeremy Sherf led Amherst with 22 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Travis
Stuczynski had 11 points and seven assists and Jesse Konkol had 11 points and eight rebounds. Stuczynski also had
four steals.
Girls basketball: The Falcons defeated
Auburndale, 57-36, in the opening round of tournament play.
The Falcons closed out the regular season unbeaten in CWC Large Division play at
16-0 with a 53-40 win over Shiocton.
Wrestling: The Falcons three wrestlers
at regional in Edgar were eliminated from further competition Saturday. They were Jeff Peskie at 130, Nolan Kayon
at 152 and Nate Peplinski at 160.
Almond-Bancroft
Boys basketball: The
Eagles handed Rosholt a 59-53 loss Thursday.
Girls basketball: The Eagles lost to
Rosholt, 62-32, Friday.
The Eagles beat Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, 44-38, in subregional play on Tuesday.

Boys basketball: The
Hornets lost 59-53 to Almond-Bancroft on Thursday.
Wild Rose defeated the Hornets, 43-39, Saturday.
Girls basketball: The
Hornets captured a share of the CWC Small Division title with a 62-32 victory over Almond-Bancroft Friday.
The Hornets opened tournament play against Pacelli. See page 16.
Wrestling: Casey Giese advanced
to the State Wrestling Tournament. Giese, 26-15, faces Matt Farrell, 30-12, of Wrightstown at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Hornets eliminated in the Edgar regional were Tom Van De Yacht at 119, Willie Van
De Yacht at 125, Matt Rice at 130, Jake Zakrzewski at 135 and Lee Schulz at 189.
