Gymnastics: The Panther gymnastics team won its first conference meet on Thursday, Dec. 20, against Marshfield, 131.975 to 110.1.

"It's good to start conference competition with a strong win," said Panther coach Mary Olszewski. "We are looking forward to our next competition on Jan. 3 at home against D.C. Everest. We will be working hard to improve each individual routine to increase our competitive score."

Kaity Munsey took first in all-around competition with a score of 33.8. She took first in the uneven bars with an 8.5 and the balance beam with an 8.9.

Raenee Bugarske took first in the floor exercise with a score of 8.95 and finished second in the all-around.

Carrie Williamson was first in the vault with an 8.55.

Hockey: SPASH took care of Merrill, 9-2, on Thursday, Dec. 20, scoring five goals in the first period and then tacking on three in the final period.

Joe Pavelski led the way for the Panthers, scoring four goals, two in the first period and then two more in the first three minutes of the third period. He was assisted by Brian Soik and Tom Dewitt on his first goal, Ben Roth on his second goal and Roth and Lutz on his third goal.

Lutz added two goals, his first with assists from Pavelski and Soik and his second on an assist from Ted Baier.

Jay Wolf, Josh Yach and Adam Nelson scored the first goals of their varsity careers to close out the scoring for the Panthers. Dewitt assisted on Wolf's goal, and Curt Patrick assisted on Yach's goal.

Nick Krygowski had 20 saves in goal for the Panthers, who led 5-1 after the first period and 6-2 after the second.

The Panthers defeated Fond du Lac, 4-2, Saturday, Dec. 22, behind three goals by Joe Pavelski.

After a scoreless first period, Fond du Lac took a 2-1 lead in the second before the Panthers came back with three goals in the third. Pavelski scored the first two goals for the Panthers, then Roth put the Panthers ahead with less than a minute to play. Pavelski added an empty-net goal a short time later.

Wrestling: The Panthers lost to Marshfield, 37-17, on Thursday, Dec. 20, with five SPASH wrestlers winning decisions.

Jake Calhoun won, 17-5, at 119 pounds and Adam Kurzynski, won, 15-1, at 130 pounds in major decisions for the Panthers.

Others posting victories were Jon Slezak at 135 pounds, Grey Pope at 171 pounds and Justin Cieslewicz at 275 pounds.

PACELLI

Boys basketball: The Cardinals loast 54-20 to Manawa in a CWC Large Schools Division contest at Manawa Friday, Dec. 21.

In a low-scoring first half, the Cardinals trailed 9-5 after the first quarter and 15-9 at the half before Manawa came alive, outscoring the Cardinals 22-5 in the third quarter to take a 37-14 lead into the final quarter.

Josh Owens and Derrick Lepak had seven points apiece for the Cardinals, who are now 2-3 in the CWC and 2-5 overall.

Girls basketball: The Cardinals got back on the winning track with a 46-37 victory over Manawa Friday, Dec. 21.

The Cardinals led 10-8 after the first quarter and stretched the lead to 19-16 at the half before moving out to a 35-27 lead after three quarters.

Emily Radomski led the way with 17 points for the Cardinals, who are now 4-2 in the CWC Large and 4-4 overall.

Wrestling: The Cardinals lost to Shiocton, 35-16, on Thursday, Dec. 20.

Ben Klosinski pinned his opponent at 189 pounds, and Jamie Klein won, 10-0, at 119 pounds.

AMHERST

Wrestling: The Falcons handed Tri-County High School a 45-28 loss Thursday, Dec. 20.

Recording pins for the Falcons were Scott Hintz at 119 pounds and Bert Soyka at 145 pounds.

ROSHOLT

Boys basketball: The Hornets improved to 5-0 in the CWC Small, with a 58-45 victory over Wild Rose on Friday, Dec. 21.

The Hornets jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter, increased the margin to 31-13 at the half and then held on for the victory.

Dane Zdroik led the Hornets with 14 points, James Kosmalski added 12 and Brad Zdroik had 10 points, plus 11 rebounds.

Girls basketball: The Hornets handed Wild Rose a 52-23 loss Thursday, Dec. 20.

Wrestling: The Hornets lost to Bonduel, 52-15, on Thursday, Dec. 20. Casey Gerard pinned his opponent for the Hornets at 112 pounds, while Devin Groshek scored an 8-7 decision.

ALMOND-BANCROFT

Boys basketball: The Eagles lost to Gresham, 55-54, in the closing seconds on Friday, Dec. 21. See story on page 16.

Girls basketball: The Eagles defeated Gresham, 58-32, Friday, Dec. 21, to bring their record to 2-4 in the CWC Small and 3-6 overall.

The Eagles held a one-point lead at the half, 23-22, but then held Gresham without a field goal in the third quarter, outscoring Gresham 19-3. Gresham didn't score a field goal in the second half until three minutes were gone in the fourth quarter as the Eagles pulled away.

Heather Witting led the Eagles with 19 points and 12 rebounds, with Darlene Turzinski and Christyn Johnson adding 11 rebounds each. Beth Turner had six assists and eight points.
