SPASH

Boys basketball: The Panthers (2-3 overall, 2-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference (WVC)) lost a close game, 48-45, to Rhinelander on Friday, Dec. 7. Eric Hoffman had 12 points to lead the team.

Girls basketball: The SPASH girls (3-3 overall, 3-2 in the WVC) lost a heartbreaker, 57-56, to Rhinelander on Friday, Dec. 7. Rhinelander's Allison Carroll hit a shot as time expired to give the Hodags the win. Ashley Konopacki led the team with 14 points and Shannon Collier added 13.

Hockey: SPASH (2-1-1 in the WVC) beat Rhinelander, 8-0, on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Joe Pavelski led the team with four goals and an assist.
The team defeated Wausau West, 4-1, on Thursday, Dec. 6. See story page 20.

Wrestling: SPASH (7-0 overall in dual meets, 2-0 in the WVC) defeated Merril, 36-27, on Thursday, Dec. 6. Mitch Oksuita, Jon Slezak and Kevin Duda earned decisions for SPASH, while Brandon Raykowski, Jake Calhoun, Steve Bachinski and Nate Kurszewki all pinned their opponents.

Swimming: The team took first place at the Panther Relays on Saturday, Dec. 8. The Panthers took first in the 200 medley, 400 medley, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 800 freestyle.

SPASH lost, 87-83, to La Crosse Logan-Central on Thursday, Dec. 6. Nilo Stefani finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:38.83 and Jon Ronzani won the 200 individual Medley in 2:14.25. Andy Menzel won the 100 backstroke in the 100 backstroke. Josh Siebert took second, Jacob Nantell third and Geoff Thill fourth in the 50 freestyle. The team also took first in the 400 freestyle relay.

PACELLI

Boys basketball: The Cardinals (1-3 overall) dropped a nonconference game to Westfield, 83-69, on Monday, Dec. 10. Derrick Lepak led the way for the team with 20 points while Brad Heeg added 16, Jake Owens 13 and Ahren Cashin 11.

Wrestling: Pacelli's undermanned wrestling team continued to struggle with a 66-0 loss to Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Thursday, Dec. 6. The team had only three varsity wrestlers at the match and lost most of the matches by forfeit.

AMHERST

Boys basketball: The Falcons (3-1 overall, 2-1 in the Central Wisconsin Conference (CWC) large division) blew out Manawa, 65-41, on Thursday, Dec. 6. Travis Bassett led the team with 20 points and Ryan Schulfer chipped in with 17.

Girls basketball: The Amherst girls (4-2 overall, 3-1 in the CWC large) pounded Manawa, 53-29, on Friday, Dec. 7. Center Molly Simkins had another impressive performance with 15 points and 17 rebounds while Jamie Krutza added 12 points.

Wrestling: Amherst defeated Omro, 48-24, on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Al Bohm, Brandon Wolding, Brian Pionkowski and Bert Soyka all pinned their opponents.

ROSHOLT

Boys basketball: The Hornets (4-1 overall, 3-0 in the CWC small) squeaked out a 47-46 victory over Tigerton on a last second free throw by Brad Zdroik in overtime on Friday, Dec. 7. Zdroik went to the line after a Tigerton player put back a missed lay-up over him and was called for over the back. Dane Zdroik and Cole Firkus each had 10 points in the win.

Girls basketball: The Rosholt girls (8-0 overall, 4-0 in the CWC small) defeated Nekoosa, 26-25, on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Emily Steines led the team with 11 points.

The team defeated Tigerton, 39-35, on Friday, Dec. 7. Steines was the leading scorer for the Hornets with 17 points.

Wrestling: The team defeated Shiocton, 37-22, on Thursday, Dec. 6. Matt Rice and Donny Carter won by decision while Casey Giese, Nathan Budsberg and Sam Steines won by pin.

ALMOND-BANCROFT

Boys basketball: The Eagles (3-1 overall, 3-0 CWC small) defeated Port Edwards, 47-44, on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Zach Mykisen hit a three-pointer in the waning seconds of the game to secure the win. Adam Berry led the team with 15 points while Mykisen and Joel Erickson each had 11.

Girls basketball: The Almond-Bancroft (2-4 overall, 1-2 in the CWC small) girls defeated Port Edwards, 44-31 on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Beth Turner led the team with 13 points while Heather Wittig added nine.
The team lost to Montello, 30-27, on Friday, Dec. 7.
