SHUDA NAMED SOFTBALL COACH AT BRADLEY: Former University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point fastpitch softball coach Dean Shuda has been named head coach at Division I Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.

Shuda had been out of coaching for the past two years. He led the UW-SP team to the NCAA Division III national title in 1998.

The Bradley Braves are part of the Missouri Valley Conference, which has an automatic NCAA bid for the conference tournament champion.

The Braves haven't had a winning season since 1995 and finished last year at 14-26.

LINDQUIST PITCHES TEAM TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: An Amherst area native who plays regularly in the Stevens Point Softball Association Legends of the Game League on Thursday nights pitched the Georgia Crackers to the National Softball Association Tournament championship for teams 65 and over July 29 in Boaz, Ariz.

Dick Lindquist, who pitches for the Buffy's Bar team of Stevens Point on Thursdays at Zenoff Park, was also named to the All-Tournament Team. The George Crackers went 5-1 to win the double-elimination tournament which was held July 27-29.

WISCONSIN RIVER LADIES LEAGUE: Ladies League winners for Wednesday, Aug. 8 , included Denise Koch, blind bogey winner and Sharon Borski, chip-in winner.

Winners in the flag events were No.10, closest to pin - second shot, Elaine Sorenson; No. 11 longest putt, Betty Pallen; No. 12, closest to pin - first shot, Marcia Hendrickson; No. 13, closest to pin - from off green, Deb Tork; No. 14, longest putt, Janet Cismoski; No.15 shortest drive, Sharon Borski; No. 16 longest drive - in fairway, Tina Hafner; No.17, longest putt, Elsie Knight; and No. 18, closest to pin - from a bunker, Luci Liebe.

Team standings and their MVP were Wisconsin River Golf Club, 830 (Mindy Mancheski); Blueberry Muffin, 851 (Kristie Cecil); Dun-Rite Cleaners, 851 (Karen Olson and Betty Pallen); Badger Heating and Air Conditioning, 859 (Sharon Borski); Lardinois and Associates, 868 (Bev Clayton); Joes Bar, 870 (Sherry Grosse); Cozy Kitchen, 877 (Lois Henke); and Harmony Health Therapeutic Center, 881 (Bugsie Wirbinske)

SENTRYWORLD TEAM TAKES FIFTH AT PGA TOURNAMENT: A Sentry World team consisting of Brian Dumler, Gary Tanko, Tom Habel and Jim Clauson took fifth place (with a total score of 61 and a plus/minus of -11) at the Wisconsin PGA 2001 John Deere TEPA Championship Best Ball tournament played recently at SentryWorld golf course.

In first place was the 27 Pine golf course team (56/-16) consisting of Bob Mertens, Jace Schmelzer, Ross Schmelzer and Tom Schmelzer.

Sheboygan T&C took second (60/-12) and the Oconomowoc golf course team took third (60/ -12).
