SPASH

Softball: The Panthers won two games in the last week, defeating Wausau West, 3-1, in eight innings on Tuesday and Wisconsin Rapids, 1-0.

Samantha Polito led off the Wausau game by reaching first base on an error and came around to score on a double by Dana Jacquin following a sacrifice by Lindsay Rosicky.

West scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh with two outs.

The Panthers scored two runs in the eighth, the first by Rosicky after she was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a single by Alexis Mains and scored on an error by the pitcher.

Kristen Sorenson, pinch-running for Mains, scored on a hit by Kristen Sorenson.

"We are still not executing the way I would like," said Panther coach Tom Drohner. "We are a very young team with some ability, but I don't think we've completely figured it out yet. We need to get better or we're going to take one on the chin here.

"The positive thing is I don't think we've even come close to our potential and we are 4-0. Each game we have to get better," he said. "I think we'll be fine, we just need to keep winning and we'll get these things figured out."

On Thursday, April 19, the Panthers nipped as Mains carried a perfect game until the last out in the seventh inning when Jenny Wirtz dropped a single in behind second base. That was Mains' second one-hitter of the season.

Polito and Rosicky led the Panther defense in the outfield robbing hit after hit from the Red Raiders hitters.

The Panther offense was led by Rosicky with a 2-for-3 performance. Mains, Jenny Maultra and Michele Rosicky each had one hit.

The lone run of the game came when Lindsay Rosicky legged out an infield single with one out. Mains advanced her to third on a single with two outs. Shannon Collier pinch-ran for Mains and proceeded to steal second. When Rapids attempted to make a play on her, Lindsay Rosicky stole home.
