SPASH defeats Wausau West

Stevens Point handed Wausau West an 8-2 defeat Tuesday, April 24, at Bukolt Park.

The Panthers collected seven hits and were aided by four Wausau errors, as pitcher Jesse Nagorski limited Wausau to five hits.

The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, with Craig Miller driving in both runs on a one-out single to center. Joel Hojnacki had led off the inning with a single, stole second base and advanced to third as Matt Barden reached base on an error.

Wausau West narrowed the deficit in the top of the second with a run off Nagorski on two hits and a walk.

SPASH came back with two more runs in the second as Adam Pezewski led off with a single and then Hojnacki walked after two were out. Barden drove in Pezewski with a single to right and Hojnacki scored on an error by the right fielder on the play.

After Wausau came back with another single run on two hits in the third, the Panthers scored twice again in the fourth. With two outs, Nagorski walked and Hojnacki reached on an error. Barden drove both of them in with a double to right.

The Panthers added another run in the fifth on a solo home run by Adam Evanoff, and their final run came in the sixth when Barden scored on a single to right by Evanoff with two outs.

Nagorski struck out three and walked two in going the distance to pick up the victory.
