Four football qualifiers hit the road for first round

A quartet of Portage County football teams qualified for the WIAA playoffs and all will be on the road for the first round, on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

In the Division 1 bracket, Stevens Point Area Senior High (5-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, 5-4 overall) travel to Chippewa Falls. The Cardinals, the No. 2 seed in SPASH's regional, have an 8-1 overall record and play in the Big Rivers Conference.

Pacelli and Rosholt, both in Division 5, also face seeded opponents in their regionals. Pacelli (5-2 in the Central Wisconsin Conference large division, 6-3 overall) travels to No. 4 seed Auburndale. The Apaches play in the Marawood Conference and have an 8-1 overall record. Rosholt faces Edgar, the No. 1 seed, at Edgar. The Wildcats have a 9-0 record, all nine wins coming in the Marawood Conference.

Almond-Bancroft, the No. 3 seed in its regional, travels to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption. The Royals, who play in the Marawood Conference, have an 8-1 record.

All games in the Level 1, or first, round start at 7 p.m. Level 2 action is Saturday, Oct. 28.
