SPASH
Baseball: The Panthers jumped to an
11-0 lead and crushed host Merrill 11-3 Tuesday. SPASH scored five runs in the first and six in the second. SPASH
swept a doubleheader Saturday at home, beating Marshfield 13-3 and 5-1.
Softball: Pitcher Alexis Mains allowed
only one hit as the Panthers downed Merrill 4-0 at home Tuesday. SPASH scored single runs in the first and second
innings and two insurance runs in the sixth.
SPASH was on the other side of the coin Monday as host Ashwaubenon no-hit the Panthers
in a 1-0 loss. SPASH pitcher Jodi Kostuchowski allowed only three hits but the Jaguars pushed across one run in
the bottom of the seventh.
Boys golf: The Panthers were third at
an eight-team invitational in Eau Claire last Friday with a 341. Jake Barge (83), Joe Pavelski (86), Tim Trzebiatowski
(88) and Scott Bahrke (84) scored for SPASH.
Girls soccer: SPASH fell for the first
time in WVC play, dropping a 1-0 road game to Rhinelander. Janel McCarville made 14 saves.
The Panthers finished 3-1 Saturday at the Sheboygan South tournament and won the
consolation championship. After dropping the first game to Sheboygan South 2-0, SPASH edged Wisconsin Lutheran
2-1 and Kenosha Bradford in a shootout. Reese, Oswall, Piotrowski, Lenze and Loomis scored after the game with
Bradford ended in a 4-4 tie. Janel McCarville stopped two shots in the shootout. In the consolation championship,
the Panthers topped Whitefish Bay Dominican 1-0. Freshman junior varsity player Carrie Williamson scored the game-winner
in the opening minute. Eleven varsity players were excused for the consolation title game in order to attend prom.
Defense did the job last Thursday as SPASH beat Wisconsin Rapids 1-0 at home. Kim
Reese scored the Panthers' goal 27 minutes into the first half and then the defense clamped down. Janel McCarville
made six saves as SPASH's goalie.
Boys tennis: The Panthers dropped a
5-2 dual meet at Rhinelander Tuesday. No. 4 singles player Chris Daode won, as did the No. 1 doubles team of Zac
Newhouse and Anatoly Detwyler.
SPASH swept the doubles matches but fell short in a 4-3 loss against D.C. Everest.
Detwyler and Newhouse won at No. 1, Matt Schroeder and Josh Nantell took No. 2, and Brandon Boehm and Ryan Wolf
won at No. 3.
Boys track: The Panthers won the WVC
Relays Tuesday with 110.5 points. Bobby Burtley, Josh Garbe, Nate Olson and Cory Flisakowski teamed to win the
1,600-meter relay while the triple jump relay (Chad Erspamer, Chase Kostichka and Travis Laird), the sprint medley
(Ryan Burhite, Steve Baumhofer, Olson and Garbe), the 800 relay (Flisakowski, Ross Adamczak, Burhite and Laird)
and the 6,400 relay (Ben Sykes, Nate Hurst, Garbe and Owen Schuh) also finished first.
Girls track: Four first place finishes
helped SPASH capture the WVC Relays Tuesday with 111 points. Winnings events were the 1,600 relay (Kim Klosno,
Alexis Sustman, Sarah Shurbert and Amber Perri), the 800 relay (Tracy Knippel, Emily Pliska, Perri and Klosno),
the long jump relay (Knippel, Shurbert, Pliska) and the triple jump relay (Knippel, Monica Asuqua and Judy Pumper).
The Panthers were second with 151 points last Friday at their home invitational.
The 1,600 relay (4:19) and Amber Perri (400 dash in 1:02) won events.
Pacelli
Baseball: A nine-run fourth inning catapulted
Pacelli to a 15-9 win at Plainfield Tri-County Tuesday. On Sunday, Pacelli swept Marshfield Columbus by scores
of 10-0 and 19-9.
Softball: The Cardinals jumped to a
7-0 lead and topped Iola-Scandinavia 13-3 at home Tuesday, in a game halted after five innings by the 10-run rule.
Pacelli split a doubleheader at Eau Claire Regis last Friday, losing 7-0 before winning game two 8-6.
Wausau West got the best of the Cardinals in extra innings last Thursday in a 10-9
win over Pacelli in 10 innings.
Boys golf: Pacelli edged visiting Marshfield
Columbus Wednesday 178-182. Brandon Peterson was the medalist (40), while John Okray (45), Brandon Flugaur (46)
and John Wachowiak (47) also scored.
Pacelli beat Weyauwega-Fremont at Tree Acres Tuesday, 168-199. Okray was the medalist with a 39. Peterson (41),
Kyle Corrigan (43) and Flugaur (45) also scored.
The Cardinals finished third among six teams last Thursday in an invite held in
Waupaca.
Boys track: Nate Swenson (high jump
with 6-feet-7) and Greg Snow (pole vault with 11-6) won events for the Cardinals at the Ripon Invitational last
Friday.
Girls track: Cindy Lila, who was second
in the 400 meters, was Pacelli's top finisher at the Ripon Invitational last Friday.
Amherst
Baseball: The Falcons exploded for a
19-1 rout at Menominee Monday. Amherst scored five times in the first inning, six in the third and four times in
both the fourth and fifth innings. Pitcher Matt Mehne allowed only one hit.
Softball: Jenny Jastromski stymied Menominee
Monday, throwing a perfect game in a 14-0 blowout win. Jastromski struck out 14 of the 18 batters she faced in
the game, which was shortened to six innings by the 10-run rule. Amherst (13-0 overall, 8-0 in the CWC large) scored
six times in the third inning and five runs in the sixth. Anne Stanislawski had three hits, including a bases-loaded
triple in the sixth. JoAnn Konkol added a two-run triple in the third.
Jastromski and Betsy Hoffman both had three hits as Amherst topped Manawa 6-3 last
Thursday. Jenni Orsund and Stanislawski added two hits each.
Boys golf: Amherst finished second in
a CWC triangular at Shiocton Monday at 176. Brian Pionkowski (39), Jeremy Sherf (40), Matt Clinton (48) and Jeff
Cloninger (49) scored for the Falcons. Amherst won a six-team invitational last Thursday in Waupaca with 318 strokes.
Boys track: The Falcons were second
with 112 points at the Iola-Scandinavia Invitational Monday. Philip Koback finished first in the long jump (19-feet-5),
the 100 meters (11.59) and the 200 (23.0). The Falcons finished fourth at the Plainfield Tri-County Invitational
last Thursday with 101 points.
Girls track: Melissa Kayon won the high
jump (4-8) and the 100 hurdles (17.28) while the 1,600 relay also finished first as the Falcons were third with
107 points at the Iola-Scandinavia Invitational Monday. Amherst scored 91 points to take third at the Plainfield
Tri-County Invitational last Thursday.
Almond-Bancroft
Baseball: The Eagles were out-hit 11-4
at Manawa but still came away with a 5-3 win. A-B scored three times in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. A-B broke
a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday for a 8-7 victory over Tigerton. Wild Rose roughed up A-B last
Thursday, topping the visiting Eagles 12-4.
Softball: The Eagles scored single runs
in each of the final three innings to rally for a 3-2 win at Manawa Tuesday. On Monday, a two-run, sixth-inning
rally was not enough for the Eagles as Tigerton dropped A-B 3-2.
A-B only collected five hits but took advantage of more than a dozen walks in a
11-10 win over visiting Iola-Scandinavia last Thursday.
Boys track: The Eagles took seventh
with 37.5 points at the Plainfield Tri-County Invitational last Thursday.
Girls track: Three Eagles won events
as A-B took fourth with 77 points at the Plainfield Tri-County Invitational last Thursday. Stephanie Jenz (shot
put with 35-8.25), Renee Reince (triple jump with 31-0.5) and Cindy Nickel (long jump with 15-1.25).
Rosholt
Baseball: Rosholt split a pair of games
at the Stratford Tournament Saturday, beating Phillips 12-3 before falling to Stratford 12-6 in the championship
game.
Softball: Emily Steines threw a four-hit
shutout as Rosholt routed Wild Rose 9-0 Monday. The win was the Hornets' (4-9 overall, 4-5 in the CWC) third straight
victory.
Boys track: The Hornets won three events
and finished fifth with 87 points at the Plainfield Tri-County Invitational last Thursday. Rob Cherek (pole vault
in 11-6), B. Staszak (3,200 meters in 10:52) and the 1,600 relay (Joel Skornia, Luke Lane, Cherek and R. Boll in
3:45.9) won events.
Girls track: With 10 first place finishes,
the Hornets ran away with the Plainfield Tri-County Invitational title last Thursday, scoring 225 points. Jenna
Eschenbauch (high jump with 5-0 and 100 hurdles in 15.5), Tami Scott (1,600 meters 5:34 and 800 meters in 2:33),
Kari Kurszewski (discus), Perjo Eelmaa (400 meters in 1:04), Jen Zdroik (3,200 meters in 12:25), the 1,600 relay
and the 3,200 relay all finished first.
