Boys basketball: Turnovers hurt Stevens Point Area Senior High School boys basketball team Tuesday night as the Panthers fell to Wisconsin Rapids, 73-52.
The Panthers were leading 8-5 early, then started turning over the ball, committing eight in the first quarter as Rapids went in front 19-10. The Panthers had 14 turnovers at the half and ended up with 23 for the game.
The Panthers won, 45-41, at Merrill for their first win of the year on Friday.

Girls basketball: The Panthers improved to 4-0 with wins over Merrill, 45-23, on Friday, and Wisconsin Rapids, 55-38, on Tuesday.

Hockey: The Panthers beat Merrill 6-2 on Thursday behind four goals by sophomore Joe Pavelski.

Wrestling: SPASH went 3-2 in dual meets at the Seymour Invitational Wrestling Meet Saturday. Jake Calhoun went 5-0 at 112 pounds to lead the Panthers, while Grey Pope at 171 and Josh Beyerl at 189 went 4-1.

Pacelli

Boys basketball: Pacelli captured its first victory under new coach Jody Hauser, defeating Menominee Indian, 68-48 last Friday. Jason Lepak led Pacelli with 14 points and Derrick Lepak added 10.
The Cardinals then lost, 50-47, at Shiocton on Tuesday, leaving them with a 1-1 Central Wisconsin large schools division record and 1-3 overall.

Girls basketball: The Pacelli girls used balanced scoring and good free-throw shooting to defeat Menomonee Indians, 58-51, last Friday.

Stephanie Johnson was three-for-three from beyond the 3-point line to lead the Cardinals with 14 points, 11 of them in the fourth quarter. Kim Schulist, playing while hurt, had 13 points, 9 of them in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals trailed 28-20 at the half and came back to grab a 37-34 lead at the end of three quarters.

The Cardinals defeated Shiocton, 40-38, Tuesday, overcoming a 27-19 halftime deficit, which they cut to 32-27 at the end of three quarters. Kim Schulist gave Pacelli the lead for the first time since early in the second quarter with a basket with about 14 seconds remaining.

Shiocton then turned over the ball and fouled Emily Radomski who made a free throw. Another Shiocton turnover with 2.5 seconds gave the Cardinals the ball again and they ran out the clock.

Schulist led Pacelli with 11 points.

Amherst

Boys basketball: Amherst captured its second Central Wisconsin Conference victory, defeating Marion, 71-27, last Friday.

Eden Weller led the Falcons with 15, while Travis Stuczynski added 13 and Jesse Konkol 12.

The Falcons also defeated Wittenberg-Birnamwood Tuesday, 50-45, bringing their CWC record to 2-0 and overall to 3-0.

In the Falcons 61-41 victory over Rosholt on Tuesday, Nov. 28, Jeremy Sherf was one assist from a triple-double as he had 12 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Eden Weller led in scoring with 23 points.

Girls basketball: The Falcons won two games, beating Marion, 62-20, Friday and Witt-Birn, 64-63, on Tuesday.

Almond-Bancroft

Boys basketball: The A-B team held Tri-County to two points in the second quarter en route to a 78-32 victory last Friday.

A-B had an 11-10 lead after the first quarter before scoring 26 points in the second quarter. Brian Warner led the Eagles with 18 points, and Joe Rendall chipped in 14, as 10 Eagles scored in the contest.

Rosholt

Boys basketball: A three-point basket by Port Edwards with one second left handed the Hornets a 51-49 loss at Port Edwards Friday.

Girls basketball: Rosholt got 23 points from Amy Scott to defeat Port Edwards, 45-32, Friday.
