SPASH

Hockey: The Panthers lost to Wausau West in Willett Arena on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2-1, on a goal with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. SPASH is 2-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and 2-5 overall.

Wrestling: Wrestling-powerhouse Wisconsin Rapids defeated the Panthers, 41-14, Thursday. Jake Calhoun at 112, Kevin Duda at 145, Grey Pope at 171 and Josh Beyerl at 189 provided the lone Panther victories.

Gymnastics: The Panthers took first place in their first meet of the season against Wisconsin Rapids Thursday, by a score of 133.15 to 130.700.

"This is a great way to start the season," said coach Mary Olszewski. "Although we are a little rough around the edges, with some room for improvement, we did what we needed to do to beat Rapids.

"The meet was exceedingly close," she said, "until our performance on bars gave us a comfortable lead."

Kaity Munsey captured the lone first for SPASH, with a 8.850 score in the uneven bars, but she and her teammates were closely bunched in the events. In the uneven bars, Anne Simonis was third with a score of 8.650 and Kim Klosno was fourth at 8.400.

In floor exercise, Nikki Cruz was second with 8.800, Raenee Bugarske third with 8.650 and Kim Klosno fourth with 8.250. In balance beam, Bugarske was second with 8.600 and Simonis third with 8.550.

In the vault, Munsey was third with 8.450, and Bugarske and Cruz tied for fourth with 8.250.

In the all-around competition, Bugarske was second with a score of 33.400.

Pacelli

Boys basketball: The Cardinals beat Manawa, 65-53, Thursday, with Jason Lepak scoring 19 points and Ben Greuel 18. The Cardinals are 3-2 in the Central Wisconsin Conference and 3-4 overall.

Girls basketball: The Cardinals defeated Manawa, 52-33, on Friday, Dec. 22, at Manawa. The win boosted the Cardinals to 3-3 in the CWC and 3-5 overall.

Wrestling: Shiocton handed the Cardinals a 31-27 defeat Thursday at Shiocton. Tim Schwarz pinned his opponent, and Greg Snow won his match 9-2. The other Cardinal points came on forfeits in three weight classes.

Amherst

Boys basketball: The Falcons defeated Wautoma, 66-39, Thursday in Amherst.

Almond-Bancroft

Boys basketball: The Eagles beat Gresham, 62-50, Thursday in Gresham. A-B's record is 4-2 in conference and 4-3 overall.

Girls basketball: Gresham rallied to hand the Eagles a 37-35 loss Thursday at Almond. The Eagles are 3-3 in the CWC and 3-6 overall.

Rosholt

Boys basketball: The Hornets fell to Wild Rose Thursday, 55-42. The boys are 1-4 in the CWC and 1-6 overall.

Girls basketball: Rosholt defeated Wild Rose Thursday, 54-21.
Nekoosa handed the Hornets a 39-37 defeat Friday, dropping them to a 5-2 record in the CWC and 8-2 overall.
