Madison team wins curling cashspiel
A Madison team captured the 16th annual Safety Source Stevens Point Classic Cashspiel at the Stevens Point Curling
Club in the three-day event from Dec. 15-17.
Fourteen teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio and Calgary, Alberta, (Canada) competed in the event,
and the teams included one former World Champion, 15 National Champions and four Olympians.
The Mike Fraboni team from Madison won the cashspiel and $1,200 by defeating the Debbie McCormick team from Chicago,
III. Joining Praboni to split the winnings were Jeremy Roe, Pat Roe and Mark Hartman.
McCormick's team of Stacey Liapis, Ann Swisshelm and Mark Swandby split the $600 second-place prize. Semi-finalists
and winners of $300 were the Ed Lukowich (Calgary) and Derrick Casper (Green Bay) teams. The consolation winner
was the Doug Pottinger team from St. Paul, Minn.
The title sponsor for the event was National Public Safety Information Bureau, and associate sponsors were Check's
Muffler Center, Stevens Point Brewery, Portesi Pizza, PIP Printing and Market Square Communications Inc.
