Kriewaldt on Lions' nickel defensive unit University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point graduate Clint Kriewaldt is expected to see a good deal of playing time at linebacker with the Detroit Lions. Kriewaldt, who was a sixth round draft pick in the 1999 draft, has practiced with the defense's nickel unit in training camp and is expected to play on passing downs. He is listed as the backup at strong side linebacker, behind Allen Aldridge, on Detroit's depth chart. He will also contribute on special teams, where he finished second on the team last year with 19 tackles in 12 games. The Detroit Free Press recently wrote a feature article on Kriewaldt. It in on the newspaper's web site at www.freep.com/sports/lions/lions1_20000801.htm. * * * SULLIVAN UPDATE: Kevin Sullivan has five hits in his last 11 at bats and is now batting .357 for the Piedmont Boll Weevils, a Class A affiliate for the Philadelphia Phillies. Sullivan, a 1996 Pacelli High School graduate, also has three doubles, five runs scored and a stolen base in four games. He was 2-for-4 with a double Tuesday night, in a 4-3 loss to the Macon Braves. On Sunday, Sullivan was also 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run in Piedmont's 4-1 win at the Charleston RiverDogs. |
