Boys track: Behind a pair of second place finishes, the Panthers finished sixth at the Madison West Relays Saturday. Josh Garbe (3,200-meters in 10:05.64) and Robb Kolodziej (shotput with 50-feet-1) both grabbed runner-up spots in their events. Rick Trzebiatowski was third in the pole vault (12-6) while Travis Laird (long jump), Chad Erstamer (high jump) and the 400 relay team all took fifth.

Girls track: The Panthers used six first-place finishes to capture the Wisconsin Rapids Relay title Tuesday. The sprint medley, 800-meter relay, 1600 relay, 4800 relay, distance medley and triple jump relay all won events.

Pacelli

Baseball: Josh Owens allowed only one hit and struck out 11 in six-and-two-thirds innings to lead Pacelli to a 6-4 season-opening win over Merrill Tuesday. The Cardinals used a three-run third inning and scored twice in the fourth to grab an early 5-0 lead. The Bluejays scored four times in the top of the seventh off reliever Josh Konz before Owens reentered for the save. Dave Blaha was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Owens was 2-for-4 at the plate.

Softball: Amherst allowed only three Pacelli hits and downed the Cardinals 11-1 Monday at Zenoff Park. Pacelli (1-2) scored its run in the first inning on a RBI single by Abby Mallek.

The Cardinals picked up their first win of the season last Friday with a 7-4 win over Marathon. The Cardinals scored two runs in the first, second and fourth innings and had a single tally in the third. Lyndsey Gagas was 3-for-4 at the plate and Abby Mallek went 2-for-4.

Pacelli dropped its season opener last Thursday to Marion, 8-7. The Cardinals had 15 hits to only four for Marion, but the Mustangs took advantage of 11 walks by Gagas. Gagas allowed four hits and struck out 11. Erin McCann and Lindsey Radomski both had three hits for Pacelli.

Boys track: The Cardinals finished third at the Wausau West Invitational Tuesday after scoring 80 points. Nate Swenson (high jump with 6-foot-4 and triple jump with 40-feet-3-1/2) and Franz Klein (1,600-meter run in 5:07 and 3,200 run in 11:08) both won a pair of events while Neil Jurgella captured the 440-yard dash (:58.28).

Girls track: The Cardinals scored four points Tuesday at the Oshkosh Girls Invitational.

Last Friday, Pacelli finished fourth at the T-Bird Invitational in Minocqua with 46 points. Kristin Mitchell (high jump and triple jump) grabbed a pair of thirds and Emily Swenson added another in the 55-meter hurdles.

Amherst

Baseball: The Falcons (1-1) could muster only one hit against Iola-Scandinavia's Ryan Gullixon in a 12-1 loss to the Thunderbirds. A combined 15 walks by four pitchers hurt Amherst, which scored its run in the second inning. I-S scored five times in the second and fourth innings before the game was called via the 10-run rule.

Amherst beat up Wild Rose last Thursday on the road, routing the Wildcats 18-1. A six-run first and a nine-run third opened up the game, which was called after five innings. Willie Hill led the way at the plate, going 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs. Kyle Trebe and Paul Konkol both had 3 RBIs. Sophomore Matt Mehne allowed only one hit over four innings and struck out seven.

Softball: Jenny Jastromski and Julie Peskie combined for a no-hitter Tuesday as the host Falcons cruised to an 18-0 win over Rosholt. Jastromski struck out eight in four innings and Peskie struck out one in an inning of relief. Renee Ostrowski's two-run homer in the third gave Amherst a 5-0 lead. The Falcons then exploded for 13 runs in the fourth. Crystal Morgan was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Anne Stanislawski finished 2-for-3 while Jamie Krutza and Ali Zajachowski were both 2-for-2.

Jastromski shut down Pacelli on Monday and the Falcons came away with an 11-1 road win. Jastromski allowed only three hits in six innings. JoAnn Konkol was 2-for-3 with a solo homer and 4 RBIs, Morgan was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Betsy Hoffman was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

The Falcons won the Waupaca Tournament last Saturday, topping Tomahawk 3-1 and Waupaca 13-0. In the two games combined, Jastromski allowed only three hits and struck out 22. Morgan was 3-for-4 and Stanislawski was 2-for-4 against Waupaca.

Almond-Bancroft

Baseball: Four runs in the fourth inning were not enough as host-Bowler handed A-B an 8-4 opening-season loss Monday. Gavin McIntee and Kent Dernbach both went 2-for-3 and freshman Joe Erickson doubled. Dernbach struck out five, walked four and gave up 10 hits.

Softball: The Eagles led 6-5 before Westfield charged back in the top of the seventh with three runs to drop host A-B 8-7 Monday. Amber Glodowski hit a solo home run for the Eagles while Courtney Newby finished 3-for-4 and Andrea Cummings had two hits and three RBIs. A-B's Emily Getzloff struck out 11 and allowed nine hits in seven innings.

Boys track: A-B finished fourth with 39.5 points Monday at the Port Edwards quadrangular. No Eagles athletes finished first in an event.

Girls track: The Eagles finished third out of four teams in the Port Edwards quadrangular Monday, scoring 27 points. Stephanie Jenz got 20 of the team's points, winning the 100-meter hurdles (20.0 seconds) and the shotput (31-feet-1).

Rosholt

Baseball: A grand slam and a two-run homer by Ryan Zdroik helped the Hornets (3-0) to a 12-0 home win over Iola-Scandinavia Monday. Besides his 3-for-3 afternoon at the plate, Zdroik also pitched five shutout innings to get the win. The senior's grand slam capped a six-run fifth inning and ended the game via the 10-run rule. The Hornets also scored five runs in the fourth after taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning.

Zdroik had 3 RBIs to lead Rosholt to a 12-2 win over Crandon Saturday. The senior was 3-for-4 with a double. Randy Printz went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs. Bryce Domask had a two-run triple.

Zdroik and Senica Omernik both homered as the Hornets topped Algoma 10-5 Saturday in the season opener. Zdroik was 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs, Omernik drove in a pair of runs, Tom Stanislawski was 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Roche Rossier hit two doubles.

Softball: Amherst dropped the Hornets 18-0 Tuesday. The Hornets stayed in the game until the third inning, when Amherst scored five runs to take a 5-0 lead.

Boys track: Rosholt took fifth place Tuesday at the Wausau West Invitational with 47 points. Rob Cherek (220-meter low hurdles) and Luke Lane (440 dash) were the highest finishers for the Hornets, as both finished third.

Girls track: The Hornets scored 45 points to finish second in Division 2/3 at the Oshkosh Invitational Tuesday. Jenna Eschenbauch won two events - the 55-meter hurdles (8.86 seconds) and the high jump (5-foot-2). Tami Scott was second in the 1,600 run and Jen Zdroik took third in the 3,200 run.
