| Wilfred A. 'Bill' Hanson Wilfred A. "Bill" Hanson, 97, Mosinee, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau. No services are planned. Condolences may be offered online at bostonfuneralhome.net. Mr. Hanson was born Dec. 31, 1914, in the town of Plover, a son of the late Ben and Nina (Taylor) Hanson. He grew up in Plover and graduated from Emerson High School in 1933. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 29, 1942, at Fort Sheridan, Ill. He served in Central Europe in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars, three Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal. He received an honorable discharge as a tech sergeant Dec. 8, 1945. He was married to Ruth Melguard on Nov. 21, 1940. She died in January of 1969. He was married to Esther Sprada in June of 1976. She died in March of 1991. Mr. Hanson worked for the Stevens Point Water Department, beginning in 1933 and retiring as a foreman in 1976. He was a longtime member of I.O.O.F. Lodge 92/93. Survivors include one nephew, Richard (Lavonne) Hanson, Plover; two nieces, Beverly Neske, Wells, Nev., and Cheryl Hilderbrand, Haines, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Sandra Johanknecht, Jacksonville, Fla., and Carol Martin, Florida; and stepgrandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles; and one niece, Judy Erickson. |
