George C. 'Fritz' Zettelmeier Jr.

George C. "Fritz" Zettelmeier Jr., 81, a longtime Plainfield businessman and a Bancroft native, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Plainfield. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in the town of Pine Grove.

Visitation will be at Leikness and Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the services. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A memorial is being established.

Mr. Zettelmeier was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Bancroft, a son of the late George C. and Olga (Gottschalk) Zettelmeier Sr. He graduated from Bancroft High School, where he was valedictorian of the class of 1948.

He worked at Haviland Farms in Bancroft and was then employed at the paper mill in Port Edwards. Later, he owned the Standard Service Station in Wautoma and then operated a milk route in the Plainfield area. In 1958, he and the late Jesse Ruffalo founded Plainfield Trucking Inc. He farmed for many years, retiring in 2009.

Mr. Zettelmeier served as trustee and past president of the village of Plainfield. He was a member of the Up River Gun Club, Ducks Unlimited and the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah (Larry) Monroe, Hancock, and Darlene (Randal) Thurley, Plainfield; one son, Randy (Kimmie Kubitschek), Plainfield; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his companion, Judith A. Iris, on Aug. 11, 2000; and two sisters, Charlotte and Darlene Zettelmeier.
