Berniece A. Steward, 90, Wisconsin Rapids, a Portage County native, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, with the Rev. William Menzel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids.
Visitation will be at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and at the church from 10:30 a.m. Tuesday until the services.
Mrs. Steward was born Aug. 6, 1921, in the town of Linwood, a daughter of the late Vincent and Martha (Lonkowski) Simkowski.
She was married to James E. Steward on Oct. 6, 1951, in Wisconsin Rapids. He died on Dec. 3, 1990.
Before her marriage, she was employed for 12 years at the Wisconsin Rapids treasurer's office. After marriage she was a homemaker and also a retail clerk at Montgomery Ward Department Store.
She was a charter member of St. Vincent de Paul Church and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include three sons, Mark (Lynn), Rudolph, Thomas (Sandra), Sparta, and Kyle (Robert) Steward-Ruud, Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
