Richard L. 'Dick' Spindler

Richard L. "Dick" Spindler, 92, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at the Portage County Health Care Center in Stevens Point.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Rozellville, with the Rev. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6352 of Stratford.

Visitation will be at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the Mass. A prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Spindler was born Aug. 15, 1919, in the town of Day in Marathon County.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. His decorations and citations consist of the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, American Defense Service ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with silver battle star, six overseas service bars, and one service stripe. He was eligible for the Purple Heart but turned it down because he thought others were more deserving of it.

He was married to Barbara C. "Bobbie" Bangart on June 23, 1951, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Rozellville. She died on Nov. 29, 2008.

Survivors include one daughter, Renee (Duane) Kirsch, Stevens Point; two sons, Keith (Roxanne), Rozellville, and Troy (Pam), Mountain Grove, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Beth, in infancy; three sons, Dean, Scott and Todd; one sister, Lorraine Weber; and two grandsons.
