Adeline T. Meronek

Adeline T. Meronek, 98, a resident at North Haven Assisted Living in Stevens Point, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point.

Visitation will be at Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and at the church from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the Mass. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Meronek was born May 1, 1913, in the town of Sharon, a daughter of the late Joseph and Victoria (Strosin) Ziolkowski. She grew up on the family farm and attended Sacred Heart Grade School in Polonia.

She was married to Alois J. Meronek on May 14, 1935, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. They were the first couple married in the new church after it had been built. He died on Feb. 20, 1992.

In her earlier years, she worked as a housekeeper for St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. After her marriage, she managed a general store in Keene with her husband. They later moved to Milwaukee where she worked for Adelman's Dry Cleaning for a short time. They lived in Milwaukee for 12 years before moving to the Nelsonville area where they farmed for more than 20 years. They moved to Stevens Point in 1972.

She was a member of the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Rosary Society and the St. Stanislaus Rosary Society.

Survivors include one son, Frederick, Stevens Point; two daughters, Julie (Larry) Spence, Hampton, Va., and Carol Eron, Rudolph; one brother, Ben Ziolkowski, Wausau; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, James; six brothers, Joseph, Harry, Myron, Victor, Nick and Sylvester Ziolkowski; and three sisters, Cecilia Eckendorf, Grace Kozolek and Sally Somers.
