| David C. Church David C. Church, 90, 3290 Village Lane, Plover, a retired plumbing business owner, died Thursday, Dec. 29, at Wellington Place in Plover, while under the care of Ministry Home Care-Hospice Services. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Dee Webber officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Stevens Point. Visitation was at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and again from 9 a.m. Monday until the service. A veterans ritual will take place at the funeral home at 6 p.m. Sunday with American Legion Post 6, AMVETS Post 1051 and Plover Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10262. A Masonic ritual will also be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Condolences may be offered online at www.bostonfuneralhome.net. Mr. Church was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Clarence and Edna (Clark) Church. He graduated from high school in Stevens Point in 1939. He joined the U.S. Army Sept. 22, 1942, serving in Europe during World War II as a combat engineer. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He also received three overseas service bars. He received an honorable discharge April 1, 1946. He was married to Joyce A. Soule on June 9, 1944, at First Baptist Church. Following the military, he finished a plumbing apprenticeship and became a master plumber. He worked in the family business, Church's Plumbing and Heating, until retirement in 1995. He was a member of The Springs UMC. He was also a member of AMVET Post 1051, American Legion Post 6, Plover Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10262 and Evergreen Lodge 93 F.&.A.M. He was also a charter member of the Stevens Point Ski Club. In 1995 he and his wife moved to Bessemer, Mich., where he volunteered at Grand View Hospital and helped the Forestry and Parks Department in locating where trail repairs needed to be made. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dennis (Carol), Plover, Thomas, Watersmeet, Mich., and Bert, Bessemer, Mich.; one daughter, Jane (Jim) Waitanek, Ironwood, Mich.; one sister, Carol (William) Bilhorn, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Dalsbo; and three sisters. |
