Thmoas J. Achczynski

Thomas J. Achczynski, 77, Stevens Point, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, after a long battle with Huntington's chorea disease.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home in Stevens Point, with the Rev Bill Christiansen officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Forest Cemetery in Stevens Point.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Memorials in his name will be established at a later date.

Mr. Achczynski was born June 2, 1934, in Milwaukee, a son of the late Helen and Stanley Achczynski. He earned an undergraduate degree and graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In his early years he was a Golden Gloves boxer.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

His career took him from being a Milwaukee police officer, a liaison agent for the Milwaukee Region of the Division of Corrections of the State Department of Health and Social Services, a psychiatric social worker and director of community services for the Columbia County Guidance Health Center, and lastly to a regional administrator in the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services.

Survivors include one son, Robert (Tammy); one sister, Rose; and four grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen (Hackett); his second wife, Peri (Shaw); two sisters, Alice and Dorothy; and one brother, Henry "Curly."
