| Mary K. Gummo Mary K. Gummo, 89, Wausau, mother of a Plover man, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Our House Senior Living Memory Care in Wausau. Memorial services will be at noon, Saturday, March 13, at the Helke Funeral Home in Wausau, with the Rev. Jerry Morris officiating. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Wausau. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Saturday until the services. Memorials may be directed to Our House Senior Living Memory Care, 220 W. Campus Dr., Wausau, WI 54401. Condolences may be offered online at www.helke.com. Mrs. Gummo was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Yakima, Wash., a daughter of the late Robert and Hannah (Kosch) Hess. She was married to Charles Gummo on April 29, 1944, in Medford. He died on Oct. 19, 1990. She retired from Wausau Public Schools as head of payroll and data processing after 22 years of service. She was an active volunteer for her church and community. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, participating in Martha Circle and various boards and committees. She founded the Retired Secretaries Group, volunteered at the Talent Shop, and played the piano for seniors during local AARP meetings and at local senior care centers. Survivors include one daughter, Ann (Skip) Maletzke, Mountain; one son, Larry (Mary), Plover; two brothers, Bill (Phyllis) Hess, Cinnaminson, N.J., and Edward (Joyce) Hess, Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Alice Lodholz; and two brothers, Robert and James Hess. |
