Lawrence H. 'Lory' Spring

Lawrence H. "Lory" Spring, 71, Stratford, father of a Stevens Point man, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at his home in the town of Cleveland in Marathon County.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Stratford, with Pastor Sue Eidahl officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1866.

Visitation will be held at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and again from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the service.

Mr. Spring was born on July 16, 1938, on the home farm in the town of Eau Pleine in Marathon County, a son of the late Herman and Rosa (Schori) Spring. He was a 1956 graduate of Stratford High School where he was vice-president of his class.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1961 and served on the USS Rushmore as electrician E5. He was honorably discharged in September 1965.

He was married to Betty (Zygarlicki) Grassl on Aug. 11, 1978.

He was the owner of Spring Electric & Supply Inc. in Stratford.

He formerly served as town chairman and supervisor for the town of Eau Pleine and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Stratford Area Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joe (Connie), Stevens Point, Bob (Maria), Cornell, Mich., and John Paul (Laura), Winnemucca, Nev.; one daughter, Kristine (Dale) Federwitz, Stratford; one brother, Frank (Romaine), Phillips; two sisters, Marlene (Gordon) Busche, Stratford, and Heidi (Ed) Grossenbacher, West Salem, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.
