Sister Mary Evelyn Omachinski

Sister Mary Evelyn Omachinski, 100, a Sister of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis for 81 years, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the St. Joseph Motherhouse in Stevens Point.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel, 1300 Maria Drive, Stevens Point, with the Rev. Robert Greatorex officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery.

Visitation was in the chapel from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the Mass.

Memorials in her name may be given to the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis.

Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home in Stevens Point is assisting with arrangements.

The former Gertrude Omachinski was born Jan. 20, 1910, in Menasha, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Marsh) Omachinski.

She was received into the novitiate of the Order on Aug. 6, 1929, and professed perpetual vows on Aug. 6, 1935. She was an educator for 51 years, offered supportive services at the Motherhouse for 15 years and retired in 1997.

Survivors include one brother, James (Loretta) Omachinski, Appleton; and the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis.

She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
