| David R. Larson David Roy Larson, 63, a retired technology education teacher at P.J. Jacobs Junior High School, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at home after a two-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. Visitation will be at the funeral chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and again from noon until the service. Donations may be made to a memorial fund in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be offered online at www.shudafuneral.com. Mr. Larson was born Aug. 2, 1946, in Prescott, a son of the late Kermit and Doris (Fiedler) Larson. He graduated from Ellsworth High School. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He also served in the U.S. Navy. He was married to Sue Schroeder on Oct. 25, 1969, in Manitowoc. After their marriage they lived in Milwaukee while he taught industrial arts at Pilgrim Park Junior High School in Brookfield. The couple then settled in Stevens Point, where he was a technology education teacher at P.J. Jacobs for 31 years before retiring in 2001. In 1992, he was diagnosed with leukemia and underwent a bone marrow transplant in 1993. After beating cancer, he helped and mentored other transplant patients. He was a member of a bowling league and a softball league for many years and coached his sons in Little League and basketball. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Sven (Terri), Savannah, Ga., and Dirk (Julie), Howard; two brothers, Harlan (Daun) and Roger; one sister, Mary Ann (Steve) Schoen; and five grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one grandson. |
