Joyce Elaine Fick

Joyce Elaine (Jones) Fick, 85, Oshkosh, a former Stevens Point resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Algoma Boulevard Methodist Church in Oshkosh, with a reception to follow.

Mrs. Fick was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Portage, a daughter of the late Thomas Parry and Sarah McCarter Jones. She graduated from Sheboygan Central High School and earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

She was married to Robert (Bob) Fick. He died Oct. 26, 2008.

She was a homemaker while the couple raised a family, first in Janesville, then Sheboygan (1951-55), Manitowoc (1955-58), Oshkosh (1958-62), Stevens Point (1962-66), Sheboygan again (1966-70) and Oshkosh.

During the 1960s, she returned to school at UW-Stevens Point, and later at UW-Oshkosh, to obtain a degree in speech therapy. She worked as a speech therapist in the Berlin public schools. She also helped manage and maintain a tree farm in central Wisconsin.

She was a volunteer mediator for Winnebago County for several years, a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization and active in the Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Jr. "Mitt" (Mary), Portola Valley, Calif., and Thomas (Diane), Beaverton, Ore.; six granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.
