Ann G. Moerke

Ann G. Moerke, 93, Iola, mother of three Portage County residents and owner of the Crystal Café in Iola, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca, with the Rev. Brian Belongia officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Restlawn Cemetery in the town of Grand Rapids in Wood County this spring.

Visitation will be at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the Mass. A prayer vigil will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Moerke was born April 14, 1916, in Marengo, a daughter of the late Ambrose and Genevieve (Mandel) Starkman.

She was married to Henry Moerke on July 13, 1932, in Ashland. He died in 1961.

She was a business woman, owning the Crystal Cafe in Iola.

Survivors include four sons, Donald (Betty), Maryland Heights, Mo., Clarence (Karen), Stevens Point, Joseph (Susan), Duluth, Minn., and Storm (Joan) North, Plover; one daughter, Judith (Douglas) Bolier, Stevens Point; two sisters, Genevieve, Ashland, and Laraine, Norwalk, Calif.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Zdroik; one infant daughter; one infant son, Thomas; four brothers, John, Ray, Louis and Edwin; and three sisters, June, Victoria and Betty.
