Edward J. Kubicki

Edward J. Kubicki, 96, 104 Frederick St., Stevens Point, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at the Portage County Health Care Center.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin C. Louis officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home in Stevens Point from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and in the St. Faustina Room of the church from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the Mass. A combined veterans ritual will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and a parish rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday, both at the funeral home.

Mr. Kubicki was born April 10, 1913, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Adam and Martha (Balabasinski) Kubicki. He attended local schools.

He entered the United States Army on July 6, 1942, at Fort Sheridan, Ill. He was a staff sergeant and served in France, Belgium and Germany under George Patton. In the infantry he led his squad and captured 21 Germans. He suffered gunshot wounds and shrapnel wounds to his chest, neck and hip. He fought battles in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Purple Heart, the Silver Star Medal, a European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged Oct. 25, 1945, at Fort Sill, Okla.

He was married to Ramona Orlikowski on Oct. 27, 1947, at St. Peter Catholic Church.

He worked at Lullabye Furniture Company for 10 years prior to entering the service.

He returned to Lullabye for 20 years and then worked for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point before retiring on April 14, 1978.

He was a member of American Legion Post 6 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 568.

Survivors include his wife, Stevens Point; two daughters, Karen (Donald) Allen, Amherst, and Bonnie Niewiadomski, Rosholt; four grandchildren, Nicole, Faith, Jeremiah and Miracle Joy; and five great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert and Frank; and one grandson.
