Walter L. Danczyk

Walter L. Danczyk, 80, Hayward, a Stevens Point native, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010. He had been battling cancer for some time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward, with the Very Rev. Philip J. Juza officiating. Interment with military honors will follow services at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the Mass. A gathering and luncheon for family and friends will immediately follow in St. Joseph's Parish Hall.

Donations may be directed to charities of choice in lieu of flowers.

Mr. Danczyk was born Oct. 18, 1929, in Stevens Point, a son of the late Jack and Martha Danczyk. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point.

He served in the U.S. Army in Alaska during the Korean War.

He was married to his wife, Dorothy, 54 years ago.

He was a telegrapher for the Soo Line Railroad in several different postings and was transferred to Hayward in 1959.

They settled in Hayward and established first Pine Aire Trailer Park and then Danczyk Oil Co., which he operated for 31 years, distributing to rural residences, farms and resorts in Hayward and the surrounding area.

He was active in the community and coached Little League. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the volunteer fire department.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary (Annell), Montana, and Steve (Nicki) and John (Bonnie), both of Hayward; one daughter, Jody, Hayward; one brother, Ed; and 11 grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Randy.
