Clara Jakubiak

Clara Jakubiak, 99, formerly of Plover, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at the Stevens Point Care Center.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover, with the Rev. James Trempe officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point.

Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Friday until the services.

Memorials in her name will be established at a later date.

Mrs. Jakubiak was born Dec. 24, 1910, in the town of Stockton, a daughter of the late Alex and Mary (Sikorski) Glodowski. She attended St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Fancher.

She worked at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac and Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee. During World War II, she worked at Eisenburg in Milwaukee, sewing parachutes for soldiers.

After the war she worked as a seamstress in Milwaukee where she made special order dresses for girls. The dresses were sold exclusively at Gimbels and Marshall Fields.

She was married to Roman Jakubiak on July 5, 1941, at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Fancher. He died on Nov. 19, 1986.

After the marriage the couple settled in Milwaukee. In 1975 the couple moved to the Plover area.

At the age of 97, she made her Christmas cookies and attended church every Sunday at St. Bronislava Catholic Church where she was a member. She was known for making doll dresses for many years for the St. Bronislava Parish Festival.

Survivors include one brother, Carl (Sally) Glodowski, Whiting; and two sisters, Loretta Shamrowicz and Angeline Skarzynski, both of Polonia.

She was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
