| John D. Burns Sr. John D. Burns Sr., 78, Almond, a former town of Almond chairman and supervisor, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at his residence. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Plainfield, with the Rev. Paul Lippert officiating. Burial will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery in the town of Almond. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the Mass. Memorials should be sent to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Portage County. Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.hollyfuneralhome.com. Mr. Burns was born Oct. 7, 1931, in Stevens Point, a son of the late John E. and Leola (Allen) Burns. He farmed in the town of Almond his entire life. He was a former supervisor and chairman for the town of Almond, and he also served on the St. Martin Cemetery Board. Mr. Burns was married to Carol VanDrunen on Oct. 20, 1951. She died on Nov. 19, 1992. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Plainfield. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Frank Mills) Burns, Canberry, Australia, Susan (Kenneth) Young, Almond, and Deborah (Joe Borchert) Kluck, Stevens Point; two sons, John D. (Darlene) Jr., Bancroft ,and Paul (Cynthia), Florence, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Tom; and one sister, Ann Fingar. |
