John A. Wimme

John A. Wimme, 88, King, a Nelsonville native and longtime Nelsonville postmaster, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in Olson Hall at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, where he was a resident.

A private family memorial service will be held at the Main Chapel at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, with Chaplain Wayne Schwanke officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.

Mr. Wimme was born March 9, 1921, in Nelsonville, a son of the late Henry and Eva (Diver) Wimme.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was married to Cleo Smith on Sept. 24, 1949, in Phillips.

He was a member of Nelsonville Lutheran Church.

He was the postmaster in Nelsonville for more than 30 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post in Amherst.

Survivors include his wife, Amherst; two daughters, Judy (Tony) Canales, Pardeeville, and Joan Wimme, Lake Nebagamon; one son, Lynn (Rocky), Cass Lake, Minn.; one sister, Bernice Lubecki, Richfield; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
