Evelyn E. Tomkowiak

Evelyn Ella Tomkowiak, 82, Plover, formerly of Loyal, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at her home.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cuddie Funeral Home in Loyal, with the Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery in Loyal.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service.

Mrs. Tomkowiak was born Jan. 14, 1927, in Fredonia, a daughter of the late Charles and Alma (Hilgendorf) Ziehl. She was a 1945 graduate of Port Washington High School and then attended the Business Institute of Milwaukee.

She was married to Ervin M. Tomkowiak on Sept. 24, 1949, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. He died on April 22, 2004.

In 1951, they moved from Milwaukee to a farm north of Loyal, where they raised their children and farmed 41 years together. They retired in 1991 and moved onto a hobby farm. She resided at the hobby farm until 2005, when she moved to Plover to be near her son, Todd.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Adventure Club in Withee and Loyal Senior Citizens and a former member of the Clark County Choraliers.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Roxanne), Marshfield, and Todd (Debbie), Plover; one daughter, Judy (Jeffery) Krohn, Marshfield; three sisters, Leona Heartlein, Milwaukee, Lorraine Klug, Grafton, and Violet (Howard) Burks, Shell Lake; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Amanda Braund.
