David J. Olson

David J. Olson, 59, Iola, a Stevens Point native, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 5, at the D & D Ranch at N7624 Bestul Road in the town of Helvetia, Iola.

Mr. Olson was born Oct. 6, 1949, in Stevens Point, a son of Sophie (Hoffman) Olson and the late LaVerne Olson.

He graduated from the MacKenzie College in Chattanooga, Tenn., with an associate degree in business.

He was married to Deb Opsahl on March 12, 1984, in Agana, Guam.

He was a drummer in the Heart Strings band in the 1970s and most recently the Vegetablemen.

He owned the D & D Ranch and took care of horses and animals on the ranch. He was most recently filming "Vacations On Horseback" as "JD" with Bill Porter's Wildlife Unlimited.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Matthew (Joyce), Ringold, Ga., and Daniel (Eva), Harvard, Ill.; one daughter, Jessica Olson, Seattle, Wash.; his mother, Sophie Olson, Iola; two sisters, Patricia (Donald) Pflugradt, Marshfield, and Shirley (Tom) Schultz, Green Bay; and two grandchildren.
