| Donald A. Halverson Donald A. Halverson, 84, Stevens Point, formerly of Elderon, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Portage County Health Care Center in Stevens Point while under the care of Ministry Home Care-Hospice Services. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 600 Wilshire Blvd., Stevens Point, with the Rev. Howard Hintzman officiating. A private inurnment will take place in Evergreen Rest Cemetery in the town of Elderon in Marathon County. A memorial will be established for the St. Paul's Children's Library. Schmidt-Schulta Funeral Home in Wittenberg is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at schmidtschulta.com. Mr. Halverson was born Dec. 31, 1924, in the town of Franzen in Marathon County, a son of the late Thomas and Effie (Mortson) Halverson. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was married to Edna O. "Petey" Baumgardt on Oct. 5, 1946, in Elderon. He was a former dairy farmer, cattle buyer and electrician and retired as a member of Union Bricklayer Local 9 Fox River Valley, which he belonged to for more than 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the Elderon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8068 and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Stevens Point. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Norma Halverson, Stevens Point; one brother, Marlyn (Edna L.), Wittenberg; one niece, LaVonne "Vonnie" Johnson; one nephew, Randall Halverson; one great-niece; and one great-nephew. |
