Agnes I. Ferg

Agnes I. Ferg, 88, Iola, formerly of Rosholt, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Iola Living Assistance in Iola.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Rosholt, with the Rev. John Poffinbarger officiating. Interment will be in Concordia Cemetery in Rosholt.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Mrs. Ferg was born April 20, 1921, in the town of Harrison in Waupaca County, a daughter of the late Alvin and Elizabeth (Lamphear) Madson.

She was a graduate of the Scandinavia Academy and Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point (now the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point).

She was married to Frederick Ferg on Nov. 10, 1945, in Rosholt.

Prior to her marriage she taught in a one-room school house in the Bevent area.

She was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Rosholt where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women of the ELCA.

She was also a 4-H leader of the Rosholt Pioneers for more than 20 years.

She and her husband operated a pick-your-own strawberry business for 25 years and also a registered Holstein dairy farm for 35 years.

Survivors include her husband, Sylvan Crossing in Stevens Point; two daughters, Joyce (Dan) Olson, Sheboygan Falls, and Ruth (Timm) Voltz, Omro; one son, Richard (Krystal), Rosholt; two sisters, Beatrice (Roger) Carlson, Elderon, and Betty (Lee) Wolff, Wittenberg; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, John; four sisters, Elsie Hartvig, Alta Berge, Beryl Madson and Roberta Lynde; and one brother, Philip Madson.
