| Fay Finch Clifford Fay Finch Clifford, 87, died Friday, June 19, 2009, at her home at Oakridge Senior Living Center in Stevens Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Al Jakubowski officiating. Interment will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point. Visitation will be at the Boston Funeral Home from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, until the Mass. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund to community charities has been established. Condolences may be offered online at bostonfuneralhome.net. Mrs. Clifford was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Lidstone, Manitoba, Canada, a daughter of the late Bertram and Gladys (Smith) Finch. She attended Lidstone Elementary School and graduated from Swan River Collegiate High School in Swan River, Manitoba. She received a bachelor's degree in home economics from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D., in 1943. She was married to Patrick Joseph Clifford on Jan. 6, 1944, at the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala in San Diego, Calif. He died on July 30, 1993. After a few months together in San Diego, he was deployed to China with the U.S. Marine Corps, and she returned to her family home in Lidstone where their first son was born. Following the war, they lived a short time in Langdon, N.D., near her husband's family, then in Minneapolis, Minn., until her husband joined Sentry Insurance. They settled in Stevens Point in 1956. She continued her education and completed a master's degree in home economics in 1963, spending summers in graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW). She was on the faculty of the School of Home Economics at UW-Stevens Point until her retirement. They traveled extensively and hosted foreign exchange students at their home, Humberto Lopez of Bolivia, Maria Carrizzo of Argentina and Luz Cusicanqui of Argentina. She served as a legal guardian in the Elderly Services Department for Human Services at the Ruth Gilfry Center. She was a 25-year volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a member of St. Michael's Hospital Auxiliary and the Stevens Point Curling Club. She and her husband were avid couples curlers, and she was a past president of the daytime curlers and continued curling until she was 81. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and participated in the women's Bible study group. Survivors include two sons, Patrick (Mary), Chandler, Ariz., and John (Karen), Stevens Point; one daughter, Michelle Barnett, Dyer, Ind.; one brother, Leland (Joyce) Finch, Winnipeg, Manitoba; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter. |
