Ray Fawley

Ray Fawley, 86, Scottsdale, Ariz., a former longtime Stevens Point resident and father of three Portage County residents, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover, with the Rev. James Trempe officiating. Burial will be in the Union Grove Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove.

Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, until the service.

Mr. Fawley was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Glen Flora, Wis., a son of the late Joseph and Emma (LaPorte) Fawley. He attended schools in Glen Flora.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart.

He was married to Evelyn Karczewski on Aug. 23, 1945, in Rusk County. The couple later divorced.

He worked in Wisconsin Rapids for a time, but then moved to Stevens Point where he ran Fawley Heating and Sheet Metal, a heating and air conditioning business. He later worked for Schierl Oil and Heating for a number of year before he retired.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Tahn) Grosse and Amy (Ken) Wiernik, both of Plover; two sons, Ray (Shelley), Watertown, and Terry (Lyn), Stevens Point; one brother, Roy (fiancée Lola), Wisconsin Rapids; two sisters, Dorothy (Al) Reed, Florida, and Janet (Charles) Goin, Ladysmith; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Kenneth, Earl, Clinton, Don and Charles; two sisters, Inez and Clara; two infant siblings; and his former wife, Evelyn.
