Dorothy H. Larsen

Dorothy H. Larsen, 99, Maple Ridge Memory Care, Plover, died at her residence Thursday, April 10, 2008, while under the care of Ministry Home Care-Hospice Services.

Graveside services will be held at noon Tuesday at Forest Cemetery in Stevens Point, with the Rev. Howard Hintzman officiating.

Visitation will be at Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.

A memorial is established in her name for St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Stevens Point.

Mrs. Larsen was born March 11, 1909, in Two Harbors, Minn., a daughter of the late Edward and Bertha (Morrison) Glass. She attended schools in Biwabik, Minn., Two Harbors, Minn., and Exeland, Wis. She graduated from Emerson High School in Stevens Point in 1926.

She was married to George W. Butler on Sept. 17, 1928. He died Oct. 24, 1960.

She was married to Leo C. Larsen on Oct. 4, 1967. He died Jan. 16, 1974.

Through the years she worked for Sentry Insurance, Rollin Mabie CPA and Copps Co.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women; a member of Barbara Rebekah Lodge 9, of which she was a Past Noble Grand; and a member of the Eastern Star, Arbutus Chapter 52. She also belonged to American Association of Retired Persons, Retired Senior Volunteers Program with the Commission on Aging and a past member of the YMCA, where she swam more than 3,600 miles.

She had volunteered at St. Michael's Hospital, the Chamber of Commerce, the Red Cross, United Way, YMCA, CAP Services, Hospice, Salvation Army, River Pines, Special Olympics, Portage County government offices, National Wellness and at university swim meets.

Survivors include three sisters, Patricia Wright, Virginia Bruger and Geraldine Koditek; one daughter-in-law, Mary J. Butler; six grandchildren, Susan, Sandra, Michael, William, James and Barbara; and five great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, George and David Butler; one daughter-in-law, Fae; and numerous brothers and sisters.
