| Sofie R. Kurzinski Sofie R. Kurzinski, 86, 3610 Simonis St., Stevens Point, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at St. Michael's Hospital. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Al Jakubowski officiating. Burial will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home in Stevens Point from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the Mass. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will combine with the parish rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.pisarskifuneralhome.com. Mrs. Kurzinski was born June 18, 1921, in Knowlton, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Sito) Glen. She attended schools in Knowlton and Stevens Point. She received a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1976. She was married to Roman Kurzinski on Oct. 21, 1944, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Knowlton. He died Sept. 9, 1988. After the marriage the couple settled in Chicago until 1952 when they then moved to Stevens Point. She started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse and taught in Amherst Junction and the Stevens Point area, retiring in 1988. After her retirement she became a substitute teacher and classroom grandmother. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Jerem Court 1031. She did volunteer work in the community, especially at the Lincoln Center and St. Michael's Hospital. Survivors include two sons, Terry (Nancy), Rockford, Ill, and Dale (Donna), Mundelein, Ill.; one daughter, Kathy (Bruce) Niemi, Stevens Point; two sisters, Cecile (Joseph) Lasinski, Sun City West, Ariz., and Victoria Wilson, Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. |
