| Thelma G. Herr Thelma G. Herr, 90, 5224 County Trunk F, town of Plover, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Wild Rose Manor in Wild Rose. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point, with Matthew Reid officiating. Burial will take place later in the spring at Meehan Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the service. A memorial will be established in her name in lieu of flowers. Mrs. Herr was born Aug. 28, 1917, in the Meehan Station area on the family farm in the town of Plover, a daughter of the late Harry and Nettie (Clussman) Slack. She attended grade schools in the area, graduated from high school and attended Stevens Point Teachers College for several years. Following school she taught in rural schools in Portage and Wood counties. She was married to Fred Herr Jr. on Dec. 31, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa. He died Jan. 5, 2007. She was a member of Meehan Community Church, worked at Riverside Bible Camp near Amherst and helped with church youth groups. She participated with church services at the Portage County Home. Survivors include three sisters, Bertha Phillips, Wild Rose, Harriet (George) Reid, Watertown, and Lois Slack, Chicago. She was also preceded in death by one son, David; one brother; and one sister. |
