Helen B. Check

Helen B. Check, 90, Manitowoc, a Portage County native and sister of a Stevens Point woman, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at St. Mary's of Felician Village in Manitowoc.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Parish-Marshall Site in Manitowoc, with the Rev. Richard Klingeisen officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Manitowoc.

Visitation will be at the church 9 a.m. Thursday until the Mass.

Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels in Two Rivers assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Check was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Portage County, a daughter of the late Dominic and Laura (Czerwonka) Bembenek. She was a graduate of Emerson High School in Stevens Point.

She was married to Charles B. Check on Sept. 16, 1938, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. He died Sept. 16, 2002.

She was a nursing assistant at Shady Lane Nursing Home for many years.

She was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a life member of the former St. Mary's Rosary Society.

Survivors include five daughters, Marilyn (Albin) Wahlgren, Pewaukee, Joan (Clarence) Trochil, De Pere, Christine (John) Burkart, Manitowoc, Sandra Cardarella, Seattle, Wash., and Patricia (Randy) Grunwald, Sun Prairie; one son, Charles (Lynn), Mequon; three sisters, Bertha Milanowski, Louise (David ) Stroik, Stevens Point, and Marlene Monreal; three brothers, Chester (Bernice) Bembenek, Roman (Margaret) Bembenek and Donald (Alice) Bembenek; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
