Marian Johnson Burkart
Marian Johnson Burkart, 89, The Colony, Texas, a former Rosholt resident who owned the Rosholt cheese factory and
the stepmother of two Portage County men, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, following a long illness.
Interment will take place in the Concordia Cemetery in Rosholt at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25.
A memorial service was held Friday, April 18, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in The Colony, Texas.
Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville, Texas, was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson Burkart was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Arthur and Clara Gilbertson.
She was married to Bernard "Ben" Johnson on Sept. 23, 1940. He died Aug. 15, 1966.
Together they owned and operated cheese factories in southwestern Wisconsin and the Rosholt cheese factory in Rosholt
for 19 years.
She was married to William Burkart on Nov. 14, 1970. He died May 18, 2005.
He was a workers compensation regional supervisor for 25 years in Texas and surrounding states. They moved to The
Colony, Texas, in 1975 where they lived until she moved to the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Carrollton, Texas, in
June 2003.
Survivors include one son, David (Darcia) Johnson, The Colony, Texas; two stepsons, Jeffrey (Annette) Burkart,
Stevens Point, and Thomas (Aggie) Burkart, Plover; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Buddy Gilbertson. |
